For Every Spring Season

I felt like writing a spring article… Since 2013, every winter has been a challenging season for our family. I used to not get dismayed when winter came; I actually loved it more than summer. But for a long time now, my relationship with this beloved winter season has been strained.


Because everyone is sick, and there’s a chance they could make me sick.
This might seem a bit panicky and neurotic, but like many illnesses, when you have MS, you tend to approach the situation this way. In fact, nowadays, this is a situation that prevents even healthy people from kissing

Seeing someone with a runny nose every time you turn your head can ruin your mood, especially when you must keep your immune system strong and avoid getting sick.
Thoughts like “”Did I take my multivitamins today? – I hope person X with germs doesn’t come within a meter of me; how can I escape if they do! – I hope I don’t know person Y with a runny nose, and if I do, let me hide deep inside my hoodie so they don’t see me.”” are like foxes roaming in your mind.

Forget about the natural torture of getting on an inner-city bus, even sitting in a cafe; if someone at the next table sneezes, you want to get out.

But you don’t.

Because you know that “”what will be, will be,”” and I also have this saying to myself; “”The eye that fears always gets the speck!””
Yes, I don’t kiss anyone (except my husband). If I miss someone I’ve met terribly, I might hug them with my head turned away. People might find me unfriendly because of this, but let them not take offense as I am the one who drinks the cortisone serums through my veins due to MS attacks.
Let’s be unfriendly; sometimes, I think it’s necessary to be selfish in certain matters. Like health issues, for example.

Anyway, I was talking about spring.
While in the summer season, I was so sure that I would have an attack at the beginning of the coming winter that I indeed had an MS attack. And it was more severe than any I had before (in New Year 2016). Since then, every year, I have fueled my belief that “”I will not have an attack next winter.””
It’s not just spring seasons; I want to touch on important matters that we should be careful about every season.

  • Consuming seasonal and locally produced vegetables is very important. We can’t be sure what non-local produce has been exposed to during transportation, and to be honest, many of us don’t know which vegetables are in season in our region.
  • Dressing the old-fashioned way according to the season. Let’s not wear short socks and sports shoes in the middle of winter. Or should we go out without socks just for the sake of wearing stilettos? In summer, let’s not expose ourselves to the blowing wind just because it’s very hot 🙂
    Let’s remember our mothers’ words; ‘don’t walk around sweaty, my child!’
  • Let’s make the most of exercise and the outdoors. Even if we live in a metropolis, there are walking paths around us. At worst, let’s make use of them. Let’s not hibernate in winter and only try to lose weight because “”summer is coming.””
  • Seriously, an important point: let’s not gain and lose weight quickly. This isn’t seasonal advice, but still 🙂
  • Let’s not expose ourselves to the sun at all hours. Go out at certain times for Vitamin D, of course, but I mean, don’t lie in the sun from morning to evening just to darken our skin color 🙂
  • And let’s not altogether avoid the sun in summer either. There’s a balance; let’s find it 🙂
  • Speaking of exercise, let’s not overexert ourselves. Unless we’re participating in an Olympic competition.
  • In winter, let’s not go into hibernation. Yes, the outside is not very inviting, and we shuttle between work and home, but we should value our social life. Regardless of the season, we should give importance to our social life.
  • Feet! Don’t laugh at me; keep your feet warm and dry. In summer, they sweat and get cold; in winter, they sweat and get cold and freeze in thick socks. Then come the ailments, stomach aches, back pains, and urinary problems. Take good care of your feet, regardless of the season 🙂
  • Hats! You should never go without one in summer or winter. Because we need to keep our heads warm in winter and protect them from direct sunlight in summer.

In short, how would you care for yourself if you were your own baby? Would you let it sit in the sun for hours? Or would you send it out thinly dressed? I’m asking regardless of gender.
